Diwali is the most prosperous night in Sanatana Dharma. On this day, Lord Rama came back to Ayodhaya. On this day, Deity Laxmi as well came out of sea as a result of Samundra Manthan. Mainly this day represents the victory of good on evil.
Diwali is a five day festival.
We worship mainly the Maa Laxmi, Lord Ganesha & Lord Kuber on this auspicious occasion. Reading Shrisukt with proper rituals, helps us to get Maa Laxmi Blessings. Shrisukt helps us to improve our financial condition. Apart from that Maa Kaali, Deity Saraswati, Lord Yamraj, Dhanvantari, Hanuman Ji and Bali are other deities who are worshiped during night. Worshiping these deities on this day, is very blissful. Diwali is considered to be the most auspicious time that without even considering any muhurat, we can go for any ritual (right from having marriage, buying anything or doing any other auspicious activity). This is a very auspicious time, to give a start on business or new life without any doubt. Since it is no moon (अमावस्या) on this day, we perform shraadh activities as well.
Diwali begins on waning phase, (13th Lunar day) Trayodashi in the month of Kartik. Diwali ends on Shukla Paksha Dwitiya (2nd Lunar day) in the month of Kartik.
